Ausonio, Inc. Still Hammering Away After 50 Years

Respected Castroville-Based Design and Construction Company Marks Milestone Anniversary in 2009

In 1959, Andrew “Andy” E. Ausonio founded a construction company that was to become well known for its work throughout the Central Coast of California. Now 50 years later, his son, Andrew P. Ausonio, continues the family legacy as head of Ausonio, Inc. The design/build contractor continues to maintain its reputation for quality building, design and construction through its work in a wide range of market sectors, including green building. Located in Castroville, the company has recently opened an additional office in downtown Santa Cruz.

Castroville native Andrew E. Ausonio completed his first construction project – a duplex in Castroville – while still a teenager in high school. Under his leadership Ausonio Construction built commercial, industrial, and over 1,000 residential units throughout the Central Coast, including the Barnyard Shopping Center in Carmel, the Castroville Cold Storage building, and the Castroville Industrial Park, one of the largest commercial developments on the Central Coast.

Andrew P. Ausonio took over the reigns and has been leading the company for the past 15 years. A licensed civil engineer, he leads the full-service construction firm with a hands-on approach and is actively involved in all phases of the design-build process in which the firm specializes. Ausonio manages a dedicated team of professionals with experience in many different kinds of building projects, including professional, commercial, manufacturing, processing, medical, hospitality, institutional, and custom residential.

A leader in green building, Ausonio, Inc. employs both LEED accredited professionals and Certified Green Building Professionals. Most notably the company built the nation's first entirely green campus, Chartwell School in Seaside, which received the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) Platinum Certification in November 2007. AGC of California bestowed a prestigious Constructor award on that project in 2006.

Over the years the firm has received numerous other awards and acknowledgments, including the 2005 Salinas Chamber Large Business of the Year Award. In 2008 the company was the first construction firm in Monterey County to be certified as a Green Builder through the Monterey Bay Area Green Business Program.

Among the projects the company has built in recent years are the Monterey College of Law’s campus in Seaside; Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula’s (CHOMP) MRI facility in Monterey; and the Harden Youth Center Boys and Girls Club in Salinas, among many others.

A dedicated community partner and neighbor, Ausonio Inc. has been committed to serving and helping the local community and has supported numerous non-profit organizations throughout the Central Coast and around the world.
