AGC CEF / ACE Mentor Statewide Partnership Making Strides

Approximately 70 AGC of California members, ACE mentors and industry colleagues gathered on June 7, 2012 in Irvine to celebrate the progress of the statewide partnership of the AGC Construction Education Foundation (CEF) and The ACE Mentor Program of America, Inc.

During the mixer, several speakers discussed the accomplishments to date of the AGC – ACE partnership, which was created to work together to more effectively engage, mentor and shepherd CA students through the construction industry workforce pipeline.

“With the programs and services of both organizations working together, we can serve students from high school through college or other post-secondary training to their career and have better prepared and more effective industry professionals as a result of our joint efforts,” said Erin Volk, Director of the AGC CEF.

Several students from the AGC Student Chapter at CSU Long Beach also attended the event, which was sponsored by Clark Construction Group, Skanska, and Caliagua.

One of the goals of our statewide partnership is to establish and fund a statewide scholarship program for outstanding ACE Students, administered by the AGC Construction Education Foundation. The AGC CEF and ACE presented a $1,000 scholarship during the mixer to Joana Perdomo, an outstanding ACE student who works with the Los Angeles affiliate of ACE Mentor. A graduating high school senior from the Lennox Academy in Los Angeles, Perdomo will use the scholarship towards her tuition at Harvey Mudd College in Claremont, CA, where she will be a freshman majoring in mechanical engineering this coming fall.

The statewide AGC CEF / ACE partnership has a number of upcoming events for the remainder of 2012, including: a 2012 ACE Summer Camp to be held at CSU Long Beach and hosted by the CSU LB AGC Student Chapter, and the launch of the first ACE Mentor Program in Chico, CA, which is being led by the CSU Chico AGC Student Chapter.
