The AGC of California, North Bay District, was recently recognized by Santa Rosa Junior College in its "Circle of Honor" for its ongoing endowment of scholarships for students pursuing careers in construction.
At a ceremony Aug. 15 on the campus, college President and Superintendent Dr. Robert F. Agrella thanked all the sponsors of the 2007-2008 scholarship endowments, which totaled more than $525,000.
"We want to thank all the donors for all their generosity," he said in an afternoon ceremony held in the campus quad area beneath a canopy of majestic oak trees.
AGC was represented at the event by Regional Manager Russell Snyder on behalf of North Bay District Chairman Chris Larsen of C.V. Larsen Co.
For the past seven years AGC's North Bay District has hosted a construction industry golf tournament, with proceeds going toward scholarship programs at Santa Rosa Junior College and Sonoma State University.
This year's event, held at the Windsor Golf Club in Windsor, raised more than $5,000 for the scholarships, which was matched by AGC's California Construction Education and Research Foundation.
Among those receiving scholarships at Santa Rosa Junior College were: Lauren Bordessa of Cloverdale; John Brant of Sebastapol; Rebecca Dreyer of Sebastapol; Woodley Frampton of Cloverdale; Cynthia Gonzalez of Windsor; Le Tieng of Santa Rosa; Joel Piazza of Penngrove; David Rhoades of Santa Rosa; Lyndon Ragurao of Novato; Clay Spikard of Penngrove; and Sherrie Vaughan of Santa Rosa. All of the recipients also received certificates of merit from AGC, and the opportunity to join AGC as student members, sponsored by the North Bay District.
Spickard, who attended the ceremony, said he was "very surprised" and "very happy" to receive the scholarship. The full-time student is pursuing a civil engineering and land surveying certificate and hopes to get a job someday as a surveyor.
Another scholarship recipient, Lyndon Raguro, said: "It is an honor to be recognized for my hard work, and receiving this scholarship motivates me to continue to strive for excellence. I am in my final year of the Architecture and Construction Management Program and scholarship support has enabled me to concentrate more on school work without having to worry about finances. This scholarship will help me realize my dreams."
Jerry Miller, a professor in SRJC's Applied Technology program, thanked AGC members for their generosity and said the support will ensure a steady stream of qualified candidates who will enter the field of construction.
