California Contractors Recognized for Safety

The Associated General Contractors of California (AGC-CA) handed out safety awards contractors and their commitment to safety handing awards recognizing companies that have developed and implemented excellent safety programs at the AGC of California Safety Awards of Excellence Luncheon in Costa Mesa.

The program sponsored by AGC-CA Safety & Health Council members and SeaBright Insurance Company, recognizes contractors and their commitment to safe work practices through management commitment and employee involvement.

“Employee safety on construction work sites is of utmost importance to AGC member companies,” said Tom Holsman, CEO of AGC-CA. “The Safety Awards of Excellence recognizes our member companies that have built a safe work place, through their commitment to safety.”

The awards were given in various occupational categories, including Building, Heavy/ Civil/Highway, and Specialty and were organized by number of work hours. This year’s award program recognized individuals as well through its Harry Eckstein Safety Professional of the Year Award and Superintendent Safety Award. Through is safety on a high hazard project and unique safety application categories member companies were recognized for developing company safety programs.

AGC-CA first place Safety Awards of Excellence winners include:

  • Building Division, under 200,000 work hours, Frank Schipper Construction Co.
  • Heavy/Civil/Highway Division under 200,000 work hours, American Paving Company
  • Specialty Division under 500,000 work hours Kroeker Inc.
  • Building Division 200,001 to 500,000 worker hours, Panattoni Construction, Inc.
  • Heavy/Civil/Highway Division 200,001 to 500,000 work hours Syblon Reid
  • Building Division 500,001 to 1 million work hours, Hensel Phelps Construction Company
  • Heavy/Civil/Highway Division 500,001 to 1 million work hours, CDM Constructors, Inc.
  • Specialty Division 500,001 to 1 million work hours, Underground Construction Co., Inc.
  • Building Division over 1 million work hours, Swinerton
  • Heavy/Civil/Highway Division over 1 million work hours, Eastside LRT Constructors
  • Specialty Division over 1 million work hours, Rosedin Electric, Inc.

Second place Safety Awards of Excellence winners include:

  • Building Division 200,001 to 500,000 work hours, Ausonio, Inc.
  • Heavy/Civil/Highway Division 200,001 to 500,000 work hours, Shimmick Construction Co./Obayashi Corporation JV
  • Building Division 500,001 to 1 million work hours, Clark Construction
  • Heavy/Civil/Highway Division 500,001 to 1 million work hours, Independent Construction Company
  • Heavy/Civil Highway Division over 1 million work hours, Kiewit Pacific Co.

Third place Safety Awards of Excellence winners include:

  • Heavy/Civil/Highway Division 200,001 to 500,000 work hours, R & L Brosamer, Inc.
  • Building Division 500,001 to 1 million work hours, Harbison-Mahony-Higgins, Inc.
  • Heavy/Civil/Highway Division over 1 million work hours, Flatiron Corp.

Safety on a Highway Hazard Project Safety of Excellence Award winner:

  • Syblon Reid

Unique Safety Application Safety of Excellence Award winner:

  • Hensel Phelps Construction Company

Superintendent Safety Award winner:

  • Hensel Phelps Construction Company

The Harry Eckstein Safety Professional of the Year Award was presented to Juanita Kirkpatrick, Rex Moore Electric.
