Otto Construction – Builder Under $40 Million Constructor Award (2020)

Greer Elementary School

The prestigious 2020 Builder Under $40 Million Constructor Award was presented to Otto Construction for their work on the Greer Elementary School Project. As one of the first new schools to be modernized in the San Juan Unified School District in over 25 years, Greer Elementary School had the opportunity for a fresh start. Otto Construction created an entirely new campus on the original site, delivering over 30,000 square feet of new ground-up facilities and 24,000 square feet of heavy modernization to the existing space. By using a custom modular classroom design, the team was able to meet a strictly phased construction schedule and maintain full operations of the over 500 student campus.

Rotating the school’s orientation 90 degrees on site, the project included three new buildings housing 16 classrooms, an administration building and multi-purpose room twice the size of the original one. Two existing buildings containing 12 classrooms were heavily modernized to complement the new construction. The end result: an upgraded school that provides 21st century collaborative learning environments for its K-5 students.

Otto adhered to a strict schedule, pursuing seven different construction phases that allowed new facilities to be built while others remained occupied. Safety was a top priority. An active partner with the school during construction, Otto’s collaborative approach and strong project management skills allowed them to overcome every challenge and deliver the project on-time and under budget.
