Summary: Reporting to the Senior Accountant, will be responsible for assisting in maintaining the accounting department. This position serves as an adviser to the department managers within the organization, advising them of current budgetary information and assisting the Controller and Senior Accountant in working with the organizations department managers to create a fiscal strategy that aligns with the goals of the organization.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Include the following (Other duties may be assigned):

  • Oversees all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements. Maintains internal control and safeguards for receipt of revenue, costs, and program budgets and actual expenditures, and assist in coordinating all audit activity.
  • Assist the Senior Accountant in preparing the monthly general journal entries that record the activity of the organization.
  • Assists the Senior Accountant in preparing the monthly account reconciliations for all Balance Sheet accounts and prepare any required general journal adjustments to insure accounts are in balance and properly stated. Consistently analyzes financial data and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; clearly communicate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements; monitor progress and changes and keep senior leadership abreast of AGC’s financial status.
  • Responsible for the timely transfer of data from Atlas to the Great Plains accounting system for both AGC and CEF databases. This will include the reconciliation of deposits and co-ordination and verification of cut-off with the Senior Engagement Manager and Senior Accountant.
  • Prepares monthly bank reconciliations for all bank accounts and all entities of the organization.
  • Review the reconciliation of all events by comparing the data reported in the Great Plains system to the reconciliations prepared by the events team and resolving any discrepancies.
  • Engages in critical and confidential aspects of accounting. Protects the organization’s value by keeping information confidential.
  • Assists AGC’s leadership and staff in the annual budgeting and planning process; administer and review all financial plans and compare to actual results with a view to identify, explain, and correct variances as appropriate.
  • Ensures compliance with the financial policies & procedures of the organization.
  • Participates in other assigned duties and activities needed to support the management functions of the team.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university, with a minimum of three to five years of accounting experience and increasing responsibility. Experience in a complex nonprofit that has multiple programs is not mandatory but preferred.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: A current CA driver’s license and proof of auto insurance are required.
