The Project Manager Development Program (PMDP) is designed for Project Managers early in their career, experienced construction professionals moving into a project management role, and individuals working for companies that have adopted a team-based approach for managing projects. We had a chance to connect with Cecilia Pascua from Royal Electric to discuss her recent experience in taking the virtual PMDP training with AGC of California.
Why did you enroll in PMDP training?
“Being new to the construction industry, I obviously do not have that much background. It was a challenge for me at the beginning to follow the processes involved in a construction project. I was learning as I go, project by project. I did realize, though, that I needed to get a better grasp of the construction industry and specifically project management. When this opportunity came along, I asked to enroll.”
What have you been able to achieve (or plan to achieve) since participating in PMDP?
“I am planning on taking more Project Management classes and hopefully obtain the requirements to eventually get my PMP certification.”
What is the main reason you recommend PMDP?
“The class is very engaging and is the perfect introduction to Construction Project Management. Insights from participants from diverse construction backgrounds and experiences helped my understanding of the different facets of a construction project.”
How do you think the knowledge you gained from the training will impact your career?
“Taking the PMDP course opened new possibilities for me. For someone who is in her 40’s and new to this industry, I resigned myself to not pursuing anything further in project management and just stay in my own little world of helping my project team - which I love by the way. But after taking this class, and from the encouragement of my PM and mentor, I started believing there is a place for someone like me in this industry. It is not too late for me to pursue a career in construction or project management.”
