RE: California’s Response to CDC and CDPH Quarantine Recommendations

Dear Governor Newsom,

On behalf of the Associated General Contractors of California (AGC of California) and our members, and in response to the Center for Disease Control’s (CDC) new guidance on COVID-19 quarantine, we urge you to align the California Department of Public Health’s (CDPH) guidance on COVID-19 quarantine recommendations with the CDC’s.

AGC of California is a member-driven organization that consists of over 900 companies statewide. Our members are both small and large general contractors, subcontractors, and professional service providers that build the commercial construction market in California and other states across the country. The health of our workers and the public at large is of the upmost importance to AGC of California and our members.

AGC of California appreciates your administration’s response to COVID-19, and we recognize CDPH’s needed unique state requirements based on circumstances in California over the past two years. With the advancement of vaccines and natural immunities, and as our state and country transition from pandemic to endemic, we believe it would be beneficial for CDPH to now align its recommendations around the science offered by the CDC for cohesive guidelines across our nation. As workers often travel between state lines for employment, a unified approach will help employers and workers establish uniform safety and health procedures that can become routine no matter where they work – advancing health practices that will keep workers safe from COVID-19 and other contagions now and in the future.

AGC of California urges you to align CDPH COVID-19 exposure quarantine recommendations with the CDC’s recent guidelines. With a unified approach, we can build better trust in both the CDC and CDPH and provide clarity to California’s employers, workers, and residents on the best reasonable practices to safeguard their and the public’s health. We thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Peter Tateishi
