Competent Person: A competent person is a person who is capable of identifying existing and predictable hazards in the surroundings or working conditions that are unsanitary, hazardous, or dangerous to employees. The competent person has the authority to impose prompt corrective measures to eliminate these hazards. The competent person training will provide more in depth material than that of Basic Awareness Training. Once competent person training has been completed it will be up to each employer to determine the competent person designation at each of their job-sites. Although, an individual has completed the training, further demonstration to the employer may be needed in order to show they are capable of identifying existing and predictable hazards. The employer is to make sure the competent person has authority to impose prompt corrective measures to eliminate the hazards. AGC of California Competent Person Training does not give authority, each employer may do so following the participation of training.
