Build California’s reach wouldn’t be possible without the dedication of our incredible Ambassadors—industry professionals who show up, share their stories, and inspire the next generation of construction talent. Ambassadors are industry professionals who are passionate about educating and supporting the next generation of California’s construction workforce. By sharing their own construction career journey, they help to inspire students and make it possible for Build California’s presence to reach across the state.
This month, Build California celebrates Rachel Foret, Recruiter at Dome Construction, as Ambassador of the Quarter for her dedication and passion inspiring the next generation. We caught up with Rachel to ask her a few questions about her experience in the industry and as an Ambassador. Here’s what she had to say!
Build California: What is your unique construction story and how do you think it will help inspire students to join the industry?
Rachel: My path into the construction industry was far from conventional. I initially started my career in banking, working for one of the major banks for over 12 years. To be honest, construction wasn’t even on my radar. However, an unexpected opportunity with a smaller general contractor eventually led me to Dome. As I explored this new field, I quickly realized that construction offers endless opportunities for growth, learning, and contributing to the development of communities. Over time, I transitioned from entry-level positions to my current role as a recruiter, which has given me valuable insight into both the operational and business sides of construction. This journey has shown me that the industry is not just about hard work; it’s about innovation, collaboration, and creating something that lasts. I hope my story can inspire students by showing them that construction opens doors to diverse career paths, each offering the potential for growth and making a real impact.
Build California: Why are you passionate about supporting the next generation of construction workers?
Rachel: I’m passionate about supporting the next generation because I believe construction is more than just a job—it’s a way to shape our future. Our communities depend on skilled professionals to build the infrastructure, homes, schools, and roads that keep everything running. By guiding students toward construction, we’re giving them the tools they need to thrive in a rewarding and vital industry. I also want to challenge the stereotypes and misconceptions surrounding the field, showing students that it’s a space filled with creativity, technology, and endless opportunities. It’s about helping them realize that a fulfilling career in construction can allow them to make a real difference. Additionally, I understand that traditional education isn’t the right fit for everyone—whether it’s not their interest or their circumstances don’t make it an option. I want students to know that they can have a successful career in construction, earning a great living, making a meaningful impact, and building something that truly matters to their community.
Build California: What is your favorite part about being a Build California Ambassador?
Rachel: My favorite part about being a Build California Ambassador is getting the chance to be a part of something bigger than myself—helping students understand the endless opportunities in the construction industry. I love being able to share my own experiences and show them how diverse and impactful construction careers can be. It’s also exciting to connect with like-minded individuals who share the same passion for building and growing the industry. The sense of community and collaboration among ambassadors is something I truly value.
Build California: Why do you think others should become Ambassadors?
Rachel: Becoming an Ambassador is a great opportunity for anyone who wants to make a real difference in the future of construction. It’s not just about promoting the industry—it’s about actively shaping how the next generation views it and helping them get their foot in the door. As an Ambassador, you get the chance to engage with students, mentor them, and show them that construction is a career that’s full of potential and innovation. It’s a fulfilling role that gives you the chance to leave a lasting impact on both the industry and the lives of young people looking for their next big step.
