CEF receives $30,000 in grants in one month

In May, the AGC Construction Education Foundation (CEF) received $30,000 total in grant funding. Of that amount, $15,000 was contributed by the U.S. Bank Foundation in support of the Build California program’s efforts with a focus on reaching underrepresented youth in the Central Valley. Additionally, the Howe Foundation contributed $10,000 in support of Build California, and the Teichert Foundation contributed $5,000 in support of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion programming. We would like to express our sincere gratitude for these generous contributions.

Support from charitable foundations like these allows CEF to continue our innovative programs designed to attract, develop, and retain a strong, motivated, and skilled workforce! If your company has a charitable foundation or community giving program that might be a good fit for supporting CEF programs & services, please reach out to Erin Volk at VolkE@agc-ca.org. Join the Howe Foundation, Teichert Foundation, the U.S. Bank Foundation and numerous others in creating a lasting impact on the construction industry!

Build California supports students at design build competition

In May, Build California attended the Northern California Design Build Competition hosted by Construction Industry Education Foundation (CIEF). Over 500 students from 40 different high schools competed; students designed, constructed, and donated their projects back to an end-user in the community. The event offered Build California the opportunity to connect with and support high school students in the region and develop valuable relationships with construction CTE teachers.

NorCal Small Business Construction Expo features Caltrans Director Tavares as keynote

Thank you to the nearly 400 participants at the Northern California Small Business Construction Expo (SBCX) 2023, hosted in partnership with BART, BuildOUT California, Caltrans, DGS, and the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission! Click here to view the photo gallery from this event.

The expo offered a unique opportunity for DBE, DVBE, LGBTBE, MBE, SBE, WBE, and WOSB contractors to build relationships with public and government agencies, prime contractors, and specialty trades throughout the state and keep growing their businesses.

Special thanks to keynote speaker Tony Tavares, Caltrans director, for sharing his vision on the future of transportation in California. The panel session was also a success, joined by speakers Brian Kijanka, regional manager, ISEC, and Brittni Daley-Grishaeva, president/CFO, Daley’s Drywall. The session was moderated by Mick Penn, Northern California regional community relations director, Swinerton.
