Overcoming Stigma to Achieve Opioid Risk Reduction in Workplaces & Worksites
The construction industry has been adversely impacted by the nation’s ongoing opioid crisis. The frequency and severity of musculoskeletal injuries (sprains/strains and repetitive motion disorders) contribute to opioid prescriptions for both on-and off-the job injuries. The construction industry has the highest rate of death from overdose among 20 industries. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, unintentional overdoses comprise 9.5% of occupational fatalities among all industries. Stocking naloxone/Narcan in workplaces and worksites is a best practice in first aid emergency preparedness and response.
