Valued AGC member Caliagua, Inc. acted as Engineer for the Linda Vista Complex Potable Water Pump Station, which is considered the “Heart of the System” for the City of Anaheim’s water supply. The Linda Vista Complex serves groundwater to west, central, and east Anaheim and can supply about a third of the city’s water supply to its customers each day. In the summer months, Linda Vista pumps more than 20 million gallons of water per day. This project improves system reliability for this important water source by replacing its aging infrastructure.
The project experienced significant delays in procurement due to COVID-related supply chain issues for some of the major electrical and mechanical equipment, but Caliagua was able to quickly re-organize and re-phase their work to complete the work on time. They partnered with the owner to create a new testing plan to expedite the work based on the delays of the equipment, so all work was completed within the contract duration.
The project consisted of upgrading an existing operational treatment plant, requiring extensive coordination to remove & replace major equipment while keeping the plan operational with minimal shutdowns. Planning was required months ahead of time to not disrupt the water service to a majority of the residents & businesses of the City of Anaheim.
Their phase consisted of the demolition and removal of existing equipment and facilities that are near the end of their service life; replacement of 11 existing pumps with new larger and more efficient pumps and motors; modernization of the existing electrical and control systems; upgrades to the site security systems; construction of a new building to house and protect the new pump station electrical and control equipment; and other related site improvements. The work was challenging as it included underground conduit installation on a plant with a significant number of existing utilities, but achievable.
Caliagua had multiple stakeholders within the City of Anaheim to appease – the building department, public works, and public utilities, as well as 31 subcontractors to manage and coordinate reflecting all different CSI codes to create one turnkey solution.
