Professional Development Manager

The Professional Development Manager combines strategic oversight with hands-on management of AGC’s formal/cohort and credentialed training and education programs. This position ensures successful planning, execution, and follow-up of training initiatives while supervising the Professional Development Coordinator. The Manager leads the Emerging Leaders Steering Committee, fostering leadership development and engagement. Directly involved in training logistics, reporting, and recordkeeping, the Manager ensures all programs meet the highest standards of quality and effectiveness.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include, but are not limited to, the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Supports the strategic planning process and delivery of training & education goals and initiatives, offering regular updates on progress.
  • Lead the management and execution of AGC of CA’s formal/cohort and credentialed training programs, including but not limited to:
    • Emerging Leaders Academy
    • Construction Leaders Academy
    • Strategic Leaders Academy
    • Entry Safety and Health Professional (ESHP) program
  • Lead recruitment and outreach efforts for program enrollment by building relationships with member companies and executing targeted communication strategies. Collaborate with the marketing team to develop and implement effective marketing plans for cohort-based, credentialed, and Emerging Leaders programs and events.
  • Manage participant onboarding, communication, and follow-up, including evaluations, reporting, and maintaining records for accreditation and compliance.
  • Support alumni engagement and develop opportunities for ongoing involvement, mentorship, and community-building.
  • Design and implement post-program continuing education pathways to support lifelong learning and career progression.
  • Ensure all programs meet continuing education credit (CEU) standards and oversee documentation and reporting requirements.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts and instructors to ensure program content is relevant, current, and high impact, while fostering a collaborative and innovative learning environment.
  • Design, deliver, and assess virtual and in-person training programs, managing logistics, budgets, timelines, and vendor contracts to ensure operational efficiency, accurate financial reporting in collaboration with the finance team, and a seamless participant experience.
  • Manage the development, implementation, and upkeep of training programs, as well as individual training course accreditation.
  • Lead the Emerging Leaders Steering Committee by providing strategic direction, coordinating meetings, and managing communications. Plan leadership development events and create supporting materials—such as newsletters and reports—to advance committee goals and engagement. Track participation and compile annual data and evaluation reports for cohort-based, credentialed, and Emerging Leaders programs, summarizing stakeholder feedback.
  • Manage sponsor relationships, including invoicing, benefit fulfillment, and acknowledgments, while cultivating strong partnerships with vendors, speakers, members, and other key contributors.
  • Collaborate with the Training & Education Manager to execute the annual implementation of the College2Construct mentorship program, fostering meaningful connections between students and Emerging Leaders.
  • Conduct program evaluations to assess quality and effectiveness, ensuring alignment with IACET standards for accreditation.
  • Directly supervise the Professional Development Coordinator, providing mentorship and support to ensure successful program implementation and alignment with AGC goals.
  • Monitor grant opportunities within the program scope, assisting with research, and coordinating with the executive assistant for timely submissions and progress reports.
  • Offer backup program development, management, or other support for related Workforce Development programs or services as necessary.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position supervises the Professional Development Coordinator and carries out supervisor responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employee; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s Degree (B.A.) and a minimum of three-five years’ experience managing Association and/or corporate Training & Education programs; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Construction industry training experience is preferred but not required.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:  A current CA driver’s license and proof of auto insurance are required.
