Reaching the Next Generation of California’s Construction Workforce

Educate and inform. That's what Build California strives for! Our mission to create a steady, motivated, and skilled workforce pipeline for California's construction industry is pushed forward by educating and informing young people, their influencers, and our society about Build California’s offerings and the construction industry.

At the recent Mini Skilled Trades Career Fair in Oakland, representatives from Build California, Swinerton, and the NorCal Carpenters Local 713 Union engaged with high school students to generate excitement about a career in construction. There were over 30 students present at the event–all eager to learn and network with industry leaders. The career fair was an excellent opportunity for students to get their hands on tools and get a feel for the industry’s culture.

Build California used this excellent opportunity to interact with students and companies, pass out “swag,” and answer questions about building a career path in the trades after high school. The Build California initiative is looking forward to joining more virtual and in-person events with students and industry leaders, who perfectly embody what is possible with a career in the industry.
