Hands-On Site Design for Drafters
A common problem for all Civil/Site firms is the time it takes to train their CAD staff to fully understand site design concepts. Your CAD staff may handle the technology side brilliantly, but if they don’t fully understand the legal and procedural concerns of Civil/Site design, you can wind up re-working every aspect of the project multiple times.

This course focuses on teaching site design concepts, and coupling them with the practical process of using Autodesk Civil 3D to develop professional construction documents for them. This one-of-a-kind class is broken into two components: (1) hour of instructional design, followed by a matching (1) hour of procedural work on performing that design inside of Civil 3D. Students attend online, right from their own desk. A live instructor will present all design concepts and functions, plus address questions, in real-time, as the class progresses.
Note: Instructor will present using Autodesk AutoCAD Civil 3D 2021. Students who wish to follow along with instructor are encouraged to use the same version.
Recording: Registrants for this course will receive access to a recording of each session for 24 consecutive hours. Access will start the next business day after the session ends.
Topics covered include:
Instructional: Concepts of planning and layout for the civil world. Zoning, land use, ordinance compliance, existing easements and initial site concerns like soils, and existing utilities are explained in detail.
Procedural: We show students how to develop a conceptual Land Plan inside of Civil 3D using Maps, import of USGS Soils, and GIS Data to develop existing site conditions for a design concept.
